Game Time Approaches

April 8, 2011 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release

"Terrain de mesententes" read the headline in leSoleil this morning, along with a big picture of Rochester RazorShark coach Rod Baker following practice on Thursday. It translates roughly "Area of Disagreement." It's a story about the venue of tonight's game. The basketball court at Cegep Limoillou, a local college resembling MCC, will need some modifications prior to tonight's game.

The Kebs get first class media treatment from two competing local newspapers despite the fact they draw considerably less support at the gate than the RazorSharks. Quebec's home games are broadcast on local radio. Some of them are anyway. The decisive winner take all game tonight will be preempted by a junior hockey game. This is Canada after all.

Rod was quoted as saying he won't lose any sleep over the matter of the new venue. Opposing coach Rob Spon responded that he wouldn't lose sleep either if he were staying at the Pur, the RazorSharks' upscale home for the past three nights in downtown Quebec City.

Cegep Limoilou seats about 800, so the Quebec Kebs home court advantage will theoretically be reduced by half as they take on the Rochester RazorSharks in the deciding game of their Premier Basketball League semifinal playoff series.

Likewise the decisive game in the Halifax at Lawton series has been moved to an alternate venue. Dates are tough to come by in the postseason with little opportunity to plan ahead.

The Sharks went through a lighthearted walk-through this morning at the game site. Nothing unusual to report there. There were no Sammy nor Jerice sightings. Rochester will play the hand it has. Monroe and Crouch remain stateside.

It is difficult to know what to expect tonight. There has been little mention of the missing players since they were sent home at the border crossing on Tuesday.

"I'm OK with with the eight players we have here," says Baker this morning. He says he'll coach smarter in regard to his shorter bench and the distribution of minutes than he did on Wednesday. Under the pressure of finishing the game with just seven available players (Eric Walton had been ejected with ten minutes left), Rochester lost the fourth quarter 24-12 and the game by ten. The 12 points tied the franchise low for points in a quarter.

Tip-off is 7:30. You can follow the progress of the contest on www.Razorsharks.com and on the Sharks Facebook page. You can also try to locate a live statistical update through www.dakstats.com, but the sight is largely hit or miss, especially regarding games played here in Quebec.
