Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release
HIDALGO, Texas - The Wichita Falls Wildcats and Rio Grande Valley were not able to complete their weekend series on Saturday night, as the game was suspended due to hazardous ice conditions.
The game will be continued when the 'Cats next travel to Hidalgo in March. Exact specifics on the continuation will be provided when they are available. All statistics registered in the contest will not be reflected in totals until the game is completed.
For the second night in a row, the Wildcats found the net first, and once again the tally came on a power play.
After the Killer Bees won a defensive zone draw, Lazarus made a nice play on the left-wing half wall to regain possession. He walked the puck towards the corner, then sent it into a scrum at the side of the net where Okeley was waiting. As players from both sides chopped at the puck, it squirted loose to Albrecht at the left post to turn home. The goal, his sixth of the season, now gives Wichita Falls a power-play marker in 14 games in a row.
In the second, Wichita Falls picked up a pair of tallies to stretch its lead to 3-0 before play was halted with 6:04 remaining in the second period due to an issue with the ice.
First, it was Apap picking up his second goal of the weekend, and once more it came on the man advantage. Beaulieu had the puck in the left-wing corner, and tried to rifle a cross-ice pass to Staub on the back door. The feed was blocked, but caromed right to Apap to smash home for his fifth goal of the year.
After a couple of Rio Grande Valley power plays came and went without too much trouble, Litviak found his way on the score sheet. Off a face-off, the Russian forward floated the puck down the ice for Okeley to race onto. Okeley collected the puck, spun at the circle, and fed to Litviak in the slot to blast into the roof of the net.
With 6:04 remaining the second, play was halted due to an issue with the ice. After efforts to repair it were unsuccessful, the game was suspended until further notice.
The Wildcats are next in action when they travel to Wenatchee, Wash., to take on the Wild on Dec. 19 and 20 in the final games of the first half. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (9:05 p.m., CST), with video coverage available on FASTHockey.com and an audio-only broadcast provided via YouTube.
