Game Preview: Seals at Mammoth

San Diego Seals News Release

The San Diego Seals hit the road this weekend for the first road trip of the 2021-22 campaign for a Saturday night matchup at Ball Arena against the Colorado Mammoth. The Seals look to spoil the Mammoth's home opener and clinch the team's first win of the season.

San Diego fell short on Opening Night to Vancouver in a back and forth, nail-biter of a game. A low scoring affair, the Seals offense slow start proved to be the difference maker in the game. Rookie forward Tre Leclaire led the team with two goals, while newcomer Dane Dobbie led the team with five points. Goaltender Frank Scigliano stopped 30 shots on the night.

"Frankie played really well," said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. "He was seeing the ball really well and he ultimately kept the game close. He gave us a chance to win out there, we just needed to find the back of the net a few more times on the other side of the floor."

The Seals will play the Mammoth for the first of three meetings between the two West Division teams. San Diego boasts a 4-1 all-time record against the Western Division foe, including the club's first win in team history. The Seals have outscored the Mammoth 66-49 and notched 13 power-play goals, while the defense has held Colorado to 10 or less goals every time they've met.

"There were a lot of good lessons and learnings from last week," continued Merrill. "We need to find more openings offensively, we need to click, continue to develop that chemistry. We have stuff to work on but there were a lot of positives too. Our biggest takeaway is you have to play a full 60 minutes in this league to win."

Fans will be able to watch the game on ESPNews on Saturday night at 5:30PM PT.
