Head-to-Head

The Regina Pats (19-16-2-2) start out 2014 with their second matchup against the Lethbridge Hurricanes (7-28-2-3). The Blue and White took the first meeting of the season between the two clubs with a 5-2 victory in Lethbridge to start out a stretch of eight straight road games. Morgan Klimchuk led the charge with a hat-trick and an assist in the win while Lethbridge native Jesse Zgraggen had a four point night in his first game as a Regina Pat. Reid Duke leads the "˜Canes into tonight's tilt, scoring one of the goals in the November matchup. Coming into their first game of the New Year, the Pats are 1-2-0-0 since returning from the break with both losses resulting in shutouts. The Hurricanes are on their best stretch of the season with a 4-5-0-1 record in their previous ten games. This evening's game can be heard on 620 CKRM starting at 1:35 p.m.

Lead Up: Pats Come Up Empty in 4-0 Loss to Prince Albert

The Pats were hoping to take advantage of a depleted Prince Albert lineup, but the visitors had other ideas as they played a stingy defensive game. Along the way to Cole Cheveldave's 27 save shutout, Collin Valcourt, Reid Gardiner (2), Carson Perreaux each scored to give the Raiders a 4-0 victory.

Found the Spark

Dryden Hunt didn't score his first goal of the season against the Lethbridge, but the path certainly got its start against the Hurricanes. Hunt was robbed of his first goal twice by goaltender Corbin Boes who made a pair of brilliant saves against the Nelson, B.C. product. Hunt went on to score his first two games later and has nine goals and two assists since then.

Zeroes on the Board

After going through the first half without being shutout in all 36 games, the Pats have left the rink with a zero on the board twice in their first three games after the break. Both Jordan Papirny (Brandon) and Cole Cheveldave (Prince Albert) earned shutouts against the Blue and White. In their lone win since the break, the Pats made up for it with eight goals.

Player Announcements

Pats Senior VP and GM Chad Lang made two player announcements yesterday. After discussion between the Pats' medical staff, Hockey Ops Department and 18-year old defenceman Tye Hand, the decision was made for Tye to spend the rest of the season recovering from multiple concussions the past two years. Lang also announced 19-year old forward Marc McCoy has left the team to pursue academic interests.

Who to Watch on Lethbridge

Tyler Wong has quietly put together a solid sophomore season in the WHL. The Cochrane, AB native has 26 points (14G, 12A) in 40 games in 2013-14. Wong played in his 100th WHL game against Medicine Hat on December 28th.
