Blood In The Water
After a thrilling comeback victory in overtime of Game 3, the Winterhawks find themselves in familiar territory. Needing just one win to complete their second straight sweep and advance to the Western Conference Championship, the Hawks face another heavy test in a hostile environment. Leaning on experience gained from a stifling Game 4 performance to close Round 1 in Victoria, Portland's veteran group is well-prepared for what's to come - especially after spending the last few days practicing and recovering back in the Rose City.
"It is getting back to it and getting our rest and our practice habits," said Carter Sotheran in an interview with PNW Hockey Talk after Monday's win. "We want to get everything we need to feel good again and close it out in Game 4."
A slow start put Portland behind early in Game 3 - look for a lively opening from a rested team as the Hawks go for the finisher tonight.
Starring Kyle Chyzowski
What a postseason it's been for Kyle Chyzowski! The 19-year-old alternate captain leads the team with six goals in seven playoff games and has lit the lamp in each of his last four outings. The latest installment of his heroics came in Game 3, as Chyzowski nabbed a key tying tally in the final frame to finish off a three-goal comeback and help force overtime. Back at the VMC in Games 1 and 2, the Surrey, B.C. native posted back-to-back two-goal performances - his second and third career multi-goal efforts in the WHL Playoffs - and is building on a career-best regular season with some incredible postseason moments thus far.
