Gallup to help with Katrina relief fund

Gallup Outlaws News Release

Gallup, NM. The ABA Gallup Talons professional basketball team has invited the community to attend its final tryout camp on September 10th where admission will require a donation for the American Red Cross Relief Fund for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

"When something like this occurs, basketball is meaningless," said Joe Kolb, owner of the Talons. "The devastation the people in the Gulf area experienced is compelling; the thoughts and prayers of the Gallup Talons go out to them."

Kolb said he wants his team and fans to keep sports in perspective. "People and their suffering comes first, sports isn't even on the radar screen when something like this occurs," he said. The Talons hope that this small gesture can make at least one person's life a little easier during these difficult times. "I had family and friends in New York directly affected by 9/11 and I know what the smallest gesture can mean," said Kolb. Kolb said other organizations in Gallup will be participating with the September 10th event to raise funds for the hurricane victims. Both the Gallup Talons and the ABA will also make a donation to the American Red Cross Relief Fund. For more information, email Joe Kolb at herald01@cia-g.com or visit www.abalive.com. --
