Gabe Yeung named GM and head coach for Berlin River Drivers hockey team

BERLIN - The Berlin River Drivers Hockey Club are proud to announce Gabe Yeung as its general manager and head coach for the upcoming 2015-2016 season at the Notre Dame Arena.

The 32-year-old defenseman from Sun Prairie, Wisc. comes to Berlin after spending the past couple seasons in Europe, most notably in Belgium where he served as general manager and head coach with the Charleroi Red Roosters of the Belgian Elite League.

Coach Yeung boasts 12 seasons of professional playing experience spanning from the Ligue Nord Americaine (LNAH), Central (CHL), East Coast (ECHL), International (IHL) and Southern (SPHL) Hockey Leagues in addition to Germany, Czech Republic and New Zealand where he won the Birgel Cup as a member of the Canterbury Red Devils in 2012.

Another step closer to the start of the season took place July 24 when the River Drivers took part in the 2015-2016 Federal Hockey League (FHL) Expansion Draft along with the Brewster Bulldogs from Brester, N.Y. and the Danbury Titans from Danbury, Conn.

Eligible players from the FHL waited to hear their names called and the River Drivers made 12 selections during the draft.

With their first pick the River Drivers selected Forward Cody Dion. Dion played for the 2014-2015 Federal Hockey League Champion Watertown Wolves last season and as named the playoffs Most Valuable Player.

The River Drivers went with two former Dayton Demonz with their next two selections, goalie Dustin Carlson was selected with the second pick and forward August Aiken was taken with the third pick.

The fourth selection was former Watertown Wolves' forward Chad Bennett, and their fifth pick was former Berkshire Battalion forward Lucas Van Natter.

The River Drivers selected former Demonz forward Seth Ronsberg (sixth), former Watertown Wolves forwards Matt Wray (seventh) and Ludlow Harris (eighth), former Berkshire Battalion forwards Tyler Prendergast (ninth), Tyler Howe (10th), and Brandon Contratto (11th). With their final pick the River Drivers selected former Watertown Wolves defenseman Brent Patry.
