
G-Braves Drop Game One of 10 Game Road Trip

The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves lose the opening game of a 10 game road trip with a 9-5 loss to the Columbus Clippers at Huntington Park in Columbus, OH. The Clippers scored eight runs in the first three innings off G-Braves starter RHP Todd Redmond and never trailed. The Gwinnett Braves (38-36) remain three games behind Durham (41-32) in second place in the International League South.
It Was Over When: Clippers' third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall hits a grand slam off Redmond in the bottom of the first. The Clipper would go up 8-0 with four in the third off Redmond; highlighted by a three-run homer from Luis Valbuena.
Braves Beat: On the Mound: RHP Todd Redmond (5-7) gets the loss. His line: 4.0 IP, 8H, 8R/ER, 2BB, 4K. LHP Jose Lugo works the fifth and sixth innings: 2.0 IP, 1H, 1R/ER, 2BB, 1K. LHP Dustin Richardson, in his first outing with Gwinnett pitches a dominate seventh: 1.0 IP, 2K; and Corey Gearrin works a scoreless eighth: 1.0 IP, 1K. At the plate: After a slow start, the G-Braves ended up having a pretty good night at the plate. 1B Mauro Gomez was 2-for-4 with an RBI. CF Jose Constanza, 3B Diory Hernandez, RF Stefan Gartrell, SS Brandon Hicks, 2B Ruben Gotay, DH Chris Carter and C Wilkin Castillo each had one hit. Hicks hit a solo homer in the fifth off Columbus starting pitcher David Huff. It was the ninth homer of the year for Hicks. Hernandez hit a two run homer off Huff in the 7th, his fourth of the season.
The Opposition: On the Mound: LHP David Huff (7-2) gets his second win over Gwinnett this season. His line: 6.2 IP, 9H 5R/ER, 3K. RHP Chen-Chang Lee, in his first ever Triple-A appearance, just up from Double-A Akron, works 1.1 inning of perfect relief with 2 strikeouts. RHP Zach Putnam pitches a scoreless 3-up, 3 down top of the ninth with three strikeouts. At the Plate: G-Braves killer 3B Lonnie Chisenhall did it again, going 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs for the Clippers. SS Luke Donald goes 2-for-3 with 2 runs; and LF Luis Valbuena goes 2-for-4 with a three run homer.
On Deck: Gwinnett plays game three of the four game series Saturday night at Huntington Park. RHP Julio Teheran (7-1, 1.83) will pitch for Gwinnett. LHP Scott Barnes (6-1, 3.53) starts for the Clippers. The game can be heard on the home of the G-Braves, WDUN 550 AM/102.9 FM with a 6:35 air time.
