LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Columbus Fury (9-19) defeated the Vegas Thrill (10-18) in five sets (23-25, 25-22, 25-16, 18-25, 15-5) at Lee's Family Forum on Sunday night, earning a victory in their last game of the 2025 season. Although the match started slow for the Fury, they were able to pick up their game offensively with more opportunities granted by the defense. Fury out-dug the Thrill 82-67 and out-blocked them 9-5. The two teams matched up evenly offensively, but Vegas service errors allowed the Fury more opportunities to take over the match which they were able to do in set five, winning by a ten-point difference. Izabella Rapacz was a difference maker in this match with 19 kills, attacking .302, with three blocks, ten digs, and an ace.
SET ONE
From the beginning of the match, it was back and forth between the two teams. A Kaylee Cox kill tied it at 6-6 before the Thrill went on a three-point run to gain a lead. Vegas kept their lead as the Fury tried to tie it up again. Wilma Rivera and Morgan Lewis subbed in at 12-14, and Rivera got an ace on her first serve. The Fury struggled to get the offense in rhythm, and Vegas continued their lead with two kills from Adora Anae, leading 22-19. Three consecutive service errors by the Thrill allowed the Fury to close the gap at 22-20. With their third ace of the set, the Fury hung on, trailing 23-24. Vegas won the set 25-23.
SET TWO
With a couple of attacking errors by the Fury, the Thrill were able to build the gap out to an 8-4 lead. Anae got hot with a block and two kills to extend the lead 11-4 for Vegas. Abby Walker got the sideout for the Fury to end the Thrill's run. The Fury found momentum with kills from their pins to shrink the deficit to 9-12. Izabella Rapacz scored her sixth kill to take the Fury to 12-15. The Fury kept scrapping defensively to get more opportunities to score and worked their way back in, tying it at 19-19. Errors by the Thrill set the Fury ahead 22-19. Kaley Rammelsberg came up with the block to win the set 25-22 for the Fury.
SET THREE
After being tied early at 3-3, the Fury went on a 6-1 run behind the attack and block of Cox and Rammelsberg. Rivera fed the hot-hitter, and Rapacz tallied three consecutive kills to take the Fury ahead 13-8. Two kills from Megan Lush and another from Rapacz extended the Columbus lead to 16-8. The Fury were hitting .360 at 12 kills to Vegas' four. Columbus was the first to 20 points, and Vegas trailed by seven. A kill from Morgan Lewis and an ace from Rammelsberg took the Fury ahead 22-15. The Fury went on a three-point run to win set three 25-16.
SET FOUR
In a complete shift from the previous set, it was Vegas that came out scoring early. The Thrill got up early with a 10-3 lead due to unforced errors by Columbus. Cox and Rammelsberg came up with a couple of kills, and the Fury were behind 11-5. After back-to-back kills from Lush, the Fury were down 7-13. Abby Walker got her fifth kill of the night before a service error by Rivera, setting the Thrill ahead 15-8. When the Fury reached double-digits, they were still down by seven. Lush had her tenth kill at 16-21. The Thrill won 25-18.
SET FIVE
Rapacz got the first kill of the final set in a long first rally. Kate Georgiades kept rallies alive by covering her attackers and digging heat from the Vegas offense. Lush came up with a solo block to set the Fury ahead 4-0. With a block from Rapacz, the Fury led 6-0. Alisha Glass Childress setter dumped to get the first point for the Thrill and end Fury's seven-point run. Cox got the ninth block on the night for the Fury to take the score to 10-2. The Fury won the fifth set 15-5 to win their final match of the 2025 season.
The Columbus Fury conclude the 2025 regular season with a 9-19 overall record.
