The Adirondack Frostbite suffered a 5-1 loss to the Danbury Trashers on Saturday night at the Danbury Ice Arena. Adirondack falls to 0-3 against Danbury this season with the loss.
Danbury scored a pair of goals just 15 seconds apart late in the first period to take a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes. David Hymovitz put the Trashers on the scoreboard at 16:10, scoring just 10 seconds into a power-play opportunity. Danbury won the face-off, and the puck settled on Hymovitz's stick at the near post, and he was able to slide a shot past Kris Tebbs for his fourth goal of the season.
Off the ensuring face-off, the Trashers gathered in a loose puck in the neutral zone. Caryle Lewis fed Mike Omicioli coming across the Frostbite line. Omicioli hit his brother Drew streaking to the net, and he was able to deke Tebbs down and slid a shot in on the near post for his sixth goal of the year.
Early in the second period, Danbury once again scored two quick goals to double its lead. The Trashers scored their second power-play goal of the game at 6:22 as Mike Omicioli skated into the right-wing circle and lifted a wrist shot over the glove of Tebbs for his fourth of the season.
Just 1:11 later the Trashers made it 4-0 as Alex Goupil gathered in a loose puck at the top of the crease and tucked a shot home on the near post for his ninth goal of the season.
Goupil gave the Trashers a 5-0 lead 1:45 into the final period as he gathered in a loose puck in the Frostbite zone and beat Tebbs low to the stick side for his third point of the night.
Hugo Belanger spoiled Sylvain Daigle's shutout bid with 1:56 remaining as he wristed a shot past the Trashers goaltender from the right-wing circle.
Adirondack wraps up its weekend on Sunday, hosting the Elmira Jackals at 5:15 p.m. Tickets are available at the Glens Falls Civic Center Box Office, or by calling (518) 798-0202.
