Vermont Frost Heaves News Release
South Burlington, Vt.- The Vermont Frost Heaves are gearing up for a run at repeating their 2007 ABA Championship season with the re-signing of marquee power-forward John Bryant.
While playing for the Vermont in 06-07, Bryant appeared in all but 2 games, averaging 4.9 points and 6.6 rebounds while providing a strong defensive presence inside. Since finishing the ABA season, John has been playing in Australia's SEABL for the Knox Raiders where he has exploded with averages of 14.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in 14 games.
"We are all ecstatic to have John back with us next season," says 2007 ABA Coach of the Year Will Voigt. "His leadership and work ethic set the tone for our championship last season. He has continued to develop his game in Australia, and we are looking forward to seeing his continued maturation with us next year."
"I am very excited to be returning to Vermont for the07-08 season" says John. "My decision was not only due to the success we had last year on the court, but also the relationships I made with the frost heaves staff, Coach Will, of course my teammates and our loyal fans and surrounding communities off the court. I look forward to another successful season with the heaves and bring another championship back to Vermont."
The return of Bryant shows the Frost Heaves' continued commitment to players with strong character and skill level, and who epitomize what it means to be a part of Vermont. More players are expected to sign in the coming months, with New Jersey and Vermont Tryout camps set for later in July.
Bryant spent his college career playing for the St. Joseph's Hawks, where he was a starter for their undefeated 2004 team that made a trip to the Elite 8. The 6'7", power-forward earned several on-and-off court awards for his play at St. Joe's, and went on to play in Great Britain and China before settling in with the Frost Heaves in 2006-2007.
