Burlington, Vt.-The Vermont Frost Heaves got off to a slow start this afternoon, but that would not be the case from the second quarter on, as the Frost Heaves defeated the Royal 108-74.
The Frost Heaves were led by five players in double figures: Antonio Burks, who had 18 to go with nine boards; Dokun Akingbade, who chipped in 16 plus 9 rebounds; Dwayne Lee, who scored 15; and Issa Konare, who posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.
Vermont allowed the Royal to strike first, but in the last two minutes of the quarter would take their first lead of the game. By halftime Vermont had a 10-point lead, which they would crest at 36. The Frost Heaves took advantage of three Bud Light 3-D Rule opportunities, including an Issa Konare four-point basket.
Tommy Mitchell, who ended up with 32 points and 10 rebounds, led Montreal. With the loss the Royal fall to 5-12.
Vermont (19-3) will return to Burlington's Memorial Auditorium for its next home game on Jan. 31 for a rematch with the Royal. Tip is at 7:05 p.m. The Frost Heaves will next face the Quebec Kebekwa at Quebec on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 3:00 p.m.
