Frontenacs' Leevi Meriläinen Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

The Ontario Hockey League announced today that Kingston Frontenacs' goalie, Leevi Meriläinen has been named the OHL Goaltender of the Week with a 0.5 goals-against average, .979 save percentage, one shutout and a record of 2-0-0-0.

The 6-foot-2, 170Ib. Meriläinen earned his first career OHL shutout on Friday, December 3 when the Frontenacs defeated the Oshawa Generals 5-0 at the Leon's Centre. Leevi made 28 saves in the victory and was named the First Star of the Game.

The Ottawa Senators prospect was back in the crease for Kingston on Sunday, December 5. Meriläinen stood tall in a 5-1 win over the Ottawa 67's. He stopped 20 of 12 shots to help the Frontenacs earn 2 big points over their rivals.

Meriläinen was selected in the opening round of the CHL Import Draft on June 30, 2021. The Frontenacs used their 48th overall pick to select the left-handed catching netminder from Oulu, Finland.
