Frisco RoughRiders News Release

Despite collecting just 13 hits, the RoughRiders offense amassed a season-high 18 runs, defeating the Cardinals Saturday 18-4 to capture the series. Frisco tied a franchise-record with five home runs, the fourth time the RoughRiders have done so in the seven year history of the team. Frisco's Johnny Whittleman and Chad Tracy each hit two homers and Tim Smith hit a grand slam. Frisco improved their franchise record to 6-1 on the Fourth of July.

The RoughRiders score four in the first inning when Craig Gentry scored on a throwing error followed by a three-run home run by Whittleman, his first of the season and first since August 22, 2008. Smith made it 5-0 in the second inning with an RBI single. Frisco then used a seven-run second frame to push the lead to 11-1, highlighted by a grand slam by Smith. The RoughRiders added three in the fourth inning when the first six batters of the inning walked to make the score 15-3 after four innings. Frisco added two more in the sixth inning on a two-run homer by Whittleman, his second of the game. The RoughRiders added their last run in the ninth on a solo homer by Tracy, also his second home run of the game.

Of Frisco's 13 team hits, nine of them were extra-base hits, matching a season-best. Tracy led the offense with three hits and Smith collected a career-best seven RBI. Johnny Whittleman also had a career-best with six RBI.

Frisco starter Omar Poveda (7-3) earned the victory, allowing three runs over five frames, striking out three and walking two. Springfield starter Broderick (0-5) took the loss allowing eight runs over 2.1 innings.

The RoughRiders now travel to Little Rock for a three game set against the Arkansas Travelers, beginning Sunday at 6 p.m.
