
Friday Rewind: Hat Tricks and a Shootout Highlight USHL Action

Muskegon 6, USA NTDP U18s 3
Matvei Gridin, who scored three times in leading Muskegon to a 6-2 win over Omaha at last week's USHL Fall Classic, continued to stay hot by potting two goals in Friday's 6-3 win over the NTDP in a Kids Day promotion game played in Muskegon.
Muskegon jumped out to a 4-1 first-period lead and never trailed in its first home game of the season. Sacha Boivert also scored twice and Joe Connor added a pair of assists for the Lumberjacks who are off to a 2-1-0-0 start for 2023-24.
Austin Baker, James Hagens and Cole Eiserman tallied for the NTDP.
Lukas Swedin stopped 34 of 37 shots for Muskegon, while Nick Kempf had 38 for the NTDP.
Green Bay 6, USA NTDP U17s 2
Green Bay upped its record to 3-0-0-0 for the season with a 6-2 road win at the USA NTDP U17s.
Blake Bechen's hat trick highlighted the win for the Gamblers, who also got goals from Libor Nemec, Lev Katzin and Landen Gunderson. Katzin assisted on four goals for a five-point night.
Conrad Fondrk and Landon Hfele replied for Team USA.
Adam Gajan, a 2023 second-round NHL draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks, had 27 saves for Green Bay and now stands 3-0-0-0 for the year. Patrick Quinlan and Joey Slavick combined to make 30 stops for the NTDP.
Madison 7, Chicago 6
Madison held a 4-2 lead after the first 20 minutes of action and traded goals with the Steel before coming out on top 7-6.
Finn Brink scored three times in the first period to key the Capitols' offense. Including the game-winning goal, Andrew Kuzma scored twice and had an assist for Madison and defenseman Will Felicio had a goal and an assist.
Chicago got goals from six different players in the game, while Joey DelGreco, Jordan Brisson and Thor Byfuglien all had two assists each.
The Capitols, now 3-0-0-0 for the year, got 20 saves from Carsen Musser and Christian Manz had 35 stops for the Steel.
Tri-City 5, Sioux City 2
Trevor Connelly had a three-point game on a goal and two assists in helping lead Tri-City to Friday's 5-2 home victory.
The Storm, who now stand 3-0-0-0 for the year and never trailed in the contest, also got goals from August Falloon, Phillippe Blais-Savoie, Cameron Briere and Ryan Smith.
Jordan Ronn and Joseph Mense scored goals for Sioux City.
Cameron Korpi, the reigning USHL Goaltender of the Week, stopped 18 shots and now stands 3-0-0-0 for 2023-34. Sam Urban had 28 saves for the Musketeers.
Waterloo 5, Dubuque 4 shootout
Dubuque and Waterloo traded leads over the course of the game, but it was the visiting Black Hawks that eventually came away with a 5-4 shootout win.
Goals from Connor Brown and Matthew Frost gave Waterloo a 2-1 lead after the first period. Dubuque responded with three goals in the second and after 40 minutes of action led 4-3. Waterloo's Adam Zlnka, who had a two-goal game for Waterloo, scored the lone third-period goal to send the game into overtime.
Following a scoreless overtime, the Black Hawks claimed the win by outscoring the Fighting Saints 2-1 in the shootout.
Gavin Cornforth led Dubuque offensively with two goals and two assists. Erik Pahlsson finished with a goal and a pair of assists.
Jack Spicer had 19 saves for the Black Hawks, while Kevin Reidler stopped 34 shots for Dubuque.
