Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, CA - The Fresno Grizzlies will open the 2009 Pacific Coast League schedule on Thursday, April 9th when they host the Portland Beavers, the team announced today as it unveiled its home schedule for the organization's 12th season in the Central Valley. Among the 72 home games are a July 4th matchup with the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and eight home games against a new PCL opponent.
The Grizzlies will be one of eight Pacific Coast League teams to kick off the 2009 season in their home ballpark as they open the campaign on Thursday, April 9th against the Portland Beavers. The initial eight-game homestand of the year includes four games against the Padres' top farm club, and four games with the Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
Following the team's first road trip of the season, the Grizzlies will welcome a new opponent to Chukchansi Park for the first time on Saturday, April 25th. The top Minor League affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, currently known as the Tucson Sidewinders, will relocate to Reno, NV for the 2009 season.
On Tuesday, May 12th, Fresno will open an eight-game homestand against the Round Rock Express and Albuquerque Isotopes, two clubs that have not visited the San Joaquin Valley since 2007. The Grizzlies will also host the New Orleans Zephyrs and Oklahoma Redhawks in mid-August, two more teams that did not appear at Chukchansi Park during the 2008 season due to the PCL's unbalanced schedule.
The Highway-99 Showdown Series between the Grizzlies and rival Sacramento River Cats will make its 2009 debut at Chukchansi Park on Monday, June 15th when the two teams open a three-game series. All eight games matching the Grizzlies and River Cats in Fresno will take place in a four-week span in June and July.
Chukchansi Park will host one of the biggest nights of the year on Saturday, July 4th when the Grizzlies open a four-game series against the Las Vegas 51s, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Fresno has hosted an Independence Day game each year since Chukchansi Park opened in 2002.
The Grizzlies open their final weekend of the 2008 season at Chukchansi Park tonight when they continue the Highway-99 Showdown Series with the Sacramento River Cats at 7:05pm. For information regarding tickets, promotions, or Grizzlies baseball visit FresnoGrizzlies.com or call 559.320.HITS.
