Fresno FC News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Midfielder Juan Pablo Caffa was selected to the USL Team of the Week for the second time this season, after his impressive performance helped the Foxes (6W-7L-7D) to a 4-2 win over Portland Timbers 2 on Sunday, July 8.
The 33-year-old Argentine was the star for Fresno, scoring two goals and assisting a third to Christian Chaney as the Foxes won their second in a row to remain contenders in the USL Western Conference Playoff race.
Caffa delivered a pinpoint cross to Chaney in the 22nd minute to open the scoring, and two minutes later he doubled the lead from the penalty spot. In the second half, Caffa sealed the victory by chipping in a perfect free kick from 20 yards out to collect his brace. The Fresno FC captain was also on his distribution game, finishing with a passing accuracy of 92.5 percent on 53 passes.
The Team of the Week honor is Caffa's second with Fresno FC, also earning the nod in Week 3, and his seventh of his short USL career. He was chosen to the Team of the Week five times last season with Tulsa Roughnecks FC. Caffa finished in second place in Player of the Week voting, receiving 26 percent of the vote behind Reno's Brian Brown.
It's the seventh time a Fresno FC player has been named to the USL Team of the Week. Right back Zach Ellis-Hayden was selected in Week 16 and last month, goalkeeper Kyle Reynish and midfielder Jemal Johnson earned the honor. Left back Alex Cooper was chosen in Week 2 and center back Ramon Martin Del Campo got the award in Week 4.
Fans can catch Caffa and the Foxes in action this Saturday, July 14 when they host second-place Phoenix Rising FC (10W-3L-5D, 35 pts). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Chukchansi Park. Tickets are available at tickets.fresnofc.com or the stadium box office.
It is the second and final regular-season meeting between the two clubs. They played to a 1-1 draw in Phoenix on April 28th.
