June 25, 2022 - Major League Baseball Draft League (MLBDL)
Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick, MD- The Frederick Keys (10-9) won their first extra inning game of the summer on Friday night by a final score of 3-3 against the West Virginia Black Bears (8-11) at Monongalia County Ballpark, snapping a six-game losing streak to the Black Bears.
With the score tied 3-3 after nine innings of play, the Black Bears elected to play defense for the extra inning sudden death tiebreaker, one of a few new rules implemented by the MLB Draft League for the 2022 summer.
With the winning run at third base and two out, Carlos Guzman (Northwest Florida State College) hit a walk-off single up the middle to score Daniel Figueroa (Indian Hills Junior College), clinching the victory for the Keys.
Logan Sanders (St. Petersburg College) led the Keys offensively with a game-high three hits, including a double.
Starting pitcher and right-hander Zach Fruit (Eastern Michigan) struck out six over 3.0 innings of work. The Keys bullpen of Zack Qin (MLB China Academy), Jeffrey Wilson (Pensacola State), Jonathan Pintaro (Shorter University) and Cam Tullar (Mississippi State) did a terrific job with 6.0 shutout innings of relief and eight strikeouts.
Frederick will look to win the series against West Virginia on Saturday night. First pitch for tomorrow's game is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
