June 13, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release
The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, endured a rain delay for the third night in a row against the Aiken Foxhounds but came out on top by a score of 7-3. The win gave South Georgia a series win and also put the Peanuts alone in first place with a record of 15-7.
For the third night in a row, the Peanuts got things going in the first inning scoring three runs. The runs only came on one hit as Aiken starter Jesse Krause walked two, threw a wild pitch and the Foxhounds committed two errors. The one hit in the inning came off the bat of Johnny Washington as Mike Caruso, Steve Garrabrants and Jon Zeringue each scored a run. Only one RBI was awarded with all the Foxhound mistakes as Joey Hooft had a sacrifice fly.
After scoring the game-winning run in the fourth inning, South Georgia put up three more runs in fifth. The scoring output was evenly divided throughout the lineup as every hitter between the second and eight spot scored a run. No one scored more than one run for South Georgia.
Dumas Garcia got his first win as a starter and second overall after allowing no runs on three hits in six innings pitched. Josh Cowles and Ja Jones combined for 1.1 innings allowing no runs on only one hit.
South Georgia returns home on Thursday night to begin a three-game set with Macon. Austin Weilep will get the start. First pitch is set for 7:10. The game can be heard on "1450 The Fan" and online at southgeorgiapeanuts.com. Tickets are still available at southgeorgiapeanuts.com
