Four Unanswered Goals Lifts Miners in Soo

SAULT STE MARIE, MI - After falling behind early in the 2nd, the Ice Miners responded with four straight goals to pull out a 4-1 win on Friday night at Pullar Stadium in Sault Ste. Marie. The win improved the Ice Miners magic number to two points.

Neither team scored in the first period but Soo had a 15-11 shot edge. Keystone failed to convert on three powerplays including a two man advantage. The scoreless tie was broken at 3:35 of the 2nd period when Brad Pung ripped a shot off the crossbar and past Alex Blankenburg. Trevor Cope and Sandis Zolmanis were credited with assits. The tide turned after Tommy Horn tied the game at 12:26. Horn collected a Jon Hall shot off the back boards and launched it over Soo netminder Chad Catt. 2:02 later, Noah Batis would give the Ice Miners their first lead when he unleashed a wrister past Catt. Hall and Niko Coffman picked up helpers.

Leading 2-1 into the third period, Keystone opened up a two goal lead at 6:30 when Matt Jones fed a pass off Jacob Coleman's skate and into the net. Despite an argument from Soo that Coleman kicked the puck in, the goal stood. Jones and Coffman each added their second points of the game they set up Austin Romzek's empty netter at 18:29 to bring the game to a 4-1 final. Blankenburg made 39 saves for his 15th win of the season.

Prior to the game, the Ice Miners and Eagles completed the suspended matchup from February 7th at the Ice Mine and Soo held their 2-1 lead through the final 12:42 to claim victory. With the results around the league, both Soo and Keystone can clinch playoff berths with a win on Saturday night. Soo needs just one point.
