Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Jammers ended their season long 6-game homestand on a high note Monday night against the Vermont Lake Monsters. A four run fifth inning, highlighted by a 2-run single by left fielder Carl Anderson, and RBI singles by catcher Kevin Krause, and first basemen Kevin Ross was the difference in the Jammers 6-3 win. The Jammers have now won four games in a row as they get ready to head out for a six game road trip with stops in Brooklyn and Staten Island.
Jamestown jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Designated hitter Taylor Gushue would lead off the inning with a single. Catcher Kevin Krause would then beat out a bunt, to put runners on second and first with no outs. Third basemen Chase Simpson then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners up. Second basemen Erik Lunde would capitalize with two runners in scoring position, with a line drive single to right, which would score both Gushue and Krause.
Vermont would get a run back in the top of the fourth, before the Jammers four run outburst in the fifth. The Lake Monsters would also add a run in the top of the seventh, and the top of the eight, but couldn't pull any closer than 6-3. Left fielder Max Kuhn collected two hits for the Lake Monsters in defeat.
Center fielder Elvis Escobar, who made his 2014 Jammer debut, picked up two hits. Also, Anderson, Gushue, Krause (2), Simpson, Ross, Lunde, and shortstop Erik Forgione all picked up hits for the Jammers.
Jamestown starter Montana DuRapau pitched well in his fourth start of the season for the Jammers. He would work four innings, give up three hits, only give up one run, and strike out four. He would be relieved by Jose Regalado in the top of the fifth. Regalado would work 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Nicholas Neumann would toss the next inning and 1/3, and give up one run on one hit. Luis Urena would come on to pitch the eighth for Jamestown, and he would also give up one run on one hit. Eric Karch would close the game out, pitch a scoreless inning, and earn his first save of the season.
Tuesday is an off day for the Jammers before they square off with Brooklyn Wednesday at 7:05pm. They will also battle the Cyclones Thursday, and Friday before heading to Staten Island to face the Yankees Saturday-Monday. Jamestown's next home game will be Tuesday July 22nd against the Auburn Doubledays at 7:05pm. It will also be the second $1.50 night of the season. General admission tickets, hot dogs, soda, and beer will be available for just $1.50.
