Four-Run 7th Propels Ducks to Victory

WALDORF, MD . - The Long Island Ducks scored six unanswered runs over the final four innings to defeat the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs by the final score of 7-4 and take the rubber match of their five-game series.

Trailing 4-3 entering the 7th, the Ducks rallied for four runs off Blue Crab reliever Eric Massingham. Long Island loaded the bases with one out and Joash Brodin drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game. Cody Puckett then scored on a wild pitch to give the Ducks the lead back and a Brendan Harris sac fly made it 6-4. Adam Bailey brought in the final run of the inning with an RBI single to cap the four-run inning.

Shaun Garceau (5-1) went the first six innings allowing four runs on seven hits for the victory. He is now tied for the Atlantic League lead with five wins. Massingham (1-1) was hung with the loss as he gave up four runs in just two-thirds of an inning.

Long Island drew first blood in the top of the 3rd. The Ducks loaded the bases with one out and Brodin hit a sacrifice fly to score Fehlandt Lentini from third base for the game's first run.

Angel Sanchez tied the game in the bottom of the 4th as he led off with a home run over the wall in left-center field, his first of the season.

Southern Maryland got out in front with three runs in the 5th. Amadeo Zazueta doubled home Dave Sappelt for the lead and two batters later Jermaine Mitchell launched a two-run home run, his first of the season, to make it 4-1.

Long Island responded with two runs in the top of the 6th to trim the deficit to one thanks to an RBI single by Randy Ruiz and an RBI groundout by Brendan Harris.

The Blue Crabs take to the road for a six-game series in Sugar Land against the Skeeters beginning Wednesday night at 7:05 ET.
