Edmonton Rush News Release
Edmonton, AB--- The National Lacrosse League has announced today the additional 24 players (12 on each team) that will join the 12 starters in the lineups for the 2012 NLL All-Star Game, at First Niagara Center in Buffalo on Saturday, February 25.
Rush forward Shawn Williams, defender Chris Corbeil and goalie Aaron Bold will join fellow teammate Kyle Rubish to the West Team in the 2012 NLL All-Star Game. The announcement of four Rush players is a team record of representatives to the prestige game of All-Stars.
The Rush group will join General Manger/Head Coach Derek Keenan in Buffalo. It was announced earlier that Keenan will join Washington Stealth Head Coach Chris Hall on the bench for Team West as an Assistant Coach.
"All four guys are deserving of the honour." states Keenan
"Rubisch is one of the top young D guys in the game so no surprise he was selected a starter. Williams is a great veteran player and one of the most consistent performers in NLL history. Bold is starting to show he's the goalie many thought he would be and Chris Corbeil has been a very solid player in his three years in the league."
Shawn Williams makes his seventh appearance to the All-Star Game in his career and is currently leading the Rush with 16 points on four goals and 12 assists - one point and one assist ahead of Corey Small. Williams is a full-meal deal in lacrosse and the 37-year-old floor general provides Edmonton a top-notch lefty quarterback for the first time in club history.
Aaron Bold making his first appearance continues to supply the Rush with standout goaltending through the early part of the season. The off-season acquisition leads the NLL with a 9.69 goals-against average and is tops among league netminders with a .808 save-percentage.
Chris Corbeil along with teammate Bold will make his first appearance to the All-Star Game, February 25. The strong defender is making his presence known in the West Division. Chris Corbeil was acquired from the Buffalo Bandits in exchange for Edmonton's second-round pick (ninth overall) in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft plus a conditional first-round pick in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft.
Rush defender Kyle Rubisch was announced earlier in the week to the starting West All-Star team making it his second appearance and first as a starter to the game.
Online fan balloting that helped select the starting lineups concluded this past weekend. The fan votes were combined with the votes of the league's General Managers & Head Coaches, as well as the league's covering media, to select the starters. Each group's votes counted for one-third of the total.
Earlier the league announced that Toronto Rock head coach Troy Cordingley will serve as head coach of the East team, assisted by Buffalo Bandits head coach Darris Kilgour. Washington Stealth head coach Chris Hall will serve as head coach of the West team, assisted by Edmonton Rush head coach Derek Keenan.
