San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts announced Thursday they have acquired four players from the Abilene Prairie Dogs in exchange for future considerations.

Outfielder Braden Embry, catcher Zach Welch, and pitchers Matt Larkins and Tommy Hoenshell join the Colts' 2013 spring training roster. Embry played one game for the Colts during the final week of the season, but Welch, Larkins and Hoenshell all finished the season in Abilene.

Embry was first traded to San Angelo on September 1. He recorded a hit in his only at-bat with the Colts. Embry then injured his hand sliding into second base, and was returned to Abilene the next day. He initially signed with the Prairie Dogs on August 23.

Embry hit .400 with seven RBIs in six games between the Colts and Prairie Dogs. He is now entering his second professional season.

Welch spent the entire season with the Prairie Dogs. He batted .278 with 19 RBIs and stole a career-high 14 bases in 63 games. Welch began his career in 2009 with the Texarkana Gunslingers of the now-defunct Continental Baseball League.

Now entering his fourth professional season, Welch has a .275 career batting average with 34 RBIs and 20 stolen bases in 99 games.

Larkins signed with Abilene on July 4, and went on to post a 4-1 record with a 2.88 earned-run average in 12 games and seven starts. The righthander had a complete-game shutout against the Fort Worth Cats on August 14. Larkins is entering his second professional season.

Hoenshell was also a rookie this past season, going 1-0 with a 2.25 earned-run average in two starts. In those starts, Hoenshell struck out eight batters and did not walk anybody. The righty joined the Prairie Dogs on July 15.

San Angelo has now acquired nine players from Abilene this week. The Colts are in the early stages of putting together their club for next year.

The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who just concluded their 13th season. For more information, contact the Colts' front office at 94-COLTS.
