Birmingham Barons News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After jumping out to an early lead, the Birmingham Barons (19-24) saw their lead vanish, as they fell Sunday afternoon to the Montgomery Biscuits (19-25) at Regions Field.
Facts and Figures: Zack Collins hit two home runs in the game, his sixth and seventh on the year, putting him tied for second in the Southern league along with fellow teammates Seby Zavala and Matt Rose. The Barons also tied their season high, hitting four home runs in the game, all of them solo shots.
Moments That Mattered: In the bottom of the first inning the Barons struck first off the strength of a Collins solo home run, his sixth of the season. Jameson Fisher extended the lead to 2-1 after hitting his fourth home run of the season. After falling behind 4-2, Collins was able to cut the Biscuits' lead to one run, driving out his second home run of the day and seventh of the season over the right field wall.
Turning Point: The Barons fought back to bring the game within one, but in the top of the sixth inning the Biscuits Nick Solak hit a three-run home run off of Barons reliever Ryan Burr extending the Montgomery lead to 7-3, putting the game out of reach for the Barons.
By the Numbers: Eloy Jimenez continues his solid season and has now reached base in seven of his last eight at bats. Keon Barnum added the final homer for the Barons on the day, a whopping 402-foot blast that came off the bat at 112 mph.
Up Next: The Barons and Biscuits will play the final game of the series on Monday night at Regions Field. Left-hander Ian Clarkin (3-4, 6.45) will get the start for the Barons. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm. Curt Bloom will have the call on 960 WERC News Radio and the iHeart Radio app.
