Vermont Frost Heaves News Release
South Burlington, Vt.-The American Basketball Association today announced that three members of the 2008 ABA Champion Vermont Frost Heaves have been honored as All-ABA, and coach Will Voigt, who led Vermont to its second straight title last weekend, has won Coach of the Year honors for the second year in a row.
Guard Terrance Green was named first team All-ABA, small forward Issa Konare was named second team, and power forward Antonio Burks made the third team.
Green, a 6'3" native of Portland, Ore., was a terrific rebounder and three-point shooter out of the backcourt for Vermont before going down with an ACL tear in February. ProBasketballNews.com named this graduate of the University of Nevada as one of the Top 20 players in minor-league basketball.
Konare, a former Big South Defensive Player of the Year at High Point (N.C.) University, blossomed this season after serving as a shot-blocking and rebounding role player a year ago. He reinvented himself as a 6'8" face-the-basket force over the summer with the national team of his native Senegal, and contributed 16 points and eight rebounds a game to the balanced Vermont attack.
Burks, a 6'5" power forward from Stephen F. Austin, became the first Frost Heave in franchise history to score 1,000 career points. He sank 43% of his three-point attempts and joined Konare on the victorious East All-Stars at ABA All-Star Weekend in Barre, Vt.
Voigt led the Frost Heaves' successful defense of their ABA title, along the way winning his 100th game as a pro coach with a victory at Boston on March 8. During two seasons in Vermont he has put together a 71-10 record. The native of Cabot, Vt., has worked under coaches at every level, including Rick Barnes of Texas and the San Antonio Spurs' Gregg Popovich, and led the Ulriken Eagles of Norway's first division for three seasons prior to returning to Vermont.
The Frost Heaves returned triumphantly from the ABA Final 8 Championship in Quebec City on Monday, meeting and greeting fans at the National Guard Armory in Berlin, Vt.
