Four Black Bears Names to 2012 All WCL Teams

Longview-Kelso, Washington, Saturday, August 25, 2012: Four members of the Cowlitz Black Bears have been named to the 2012 All-West Coast League teams, while the Black Bears received the Jim Dietz Sportsmanship Award.

Alex Rubanowitz (UC-Riverside) was named the shortstop on the All-WCL First Team. He provided outstanding defense, making only 3 errors, while hitting .239. Rubanowitz will be a sophomore next spring.

Outfielder Austin Diemer (Cal State-Fullerton), starting pitcher Cole Irvin (Oregon), and relief pitcher Taylor Williams (Mt. Hood CC) all received All-WCL Second Team honors. Diemer, a sophomore-to-be, hit .279 and stole 11 bases. Irvin, entering his freshman year at Oregon, went

5-1 with the Black Bears, with a flashy 2.56 ERA. Williams, who's headed to Kent State for his junior year, was the club's closer, finishing with two wins, 7 saves and a 2.12 ERA.

"We're excited for our All-WCL players, and our organization takes special pride in winning the Jim Dietz Sportsmanship Award" said Black Bears general manager Grant Wilson.

The Black Bears finished second in the West Division, losing to the Corvallis Knights, 2-0, in the West Division Championship Play-Off.

"We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of these players," said Black Bears Manager Tim Matz. "They have each had great success and we're very happy to have them representing the Black Bears."
