April 15, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charlotte Independence News Release
(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) - Charlotte Independence announced today that forward Tresor Mbuyu has signed a new contract and will be returning to the club for the 2021 season, pending league and federation approval.
"I'm very excited to be back with the team," said Mbuyu. "I'm very happy to be able to be added to the squad for the 2021 season and I am ready to do whatever it takes to help the team win moving forward."
Mbuyu, 24, first signed with the Independence prior to the Jacks' 2020 USL Championship season.
Prior to making the move to the USL Championship, Mbuyu played one season for Orlando City B (2019), where he made 19 appearances and recorded one goal during the 2019 USL League One season.
"We are so glad to have Tresor with us for another season," said Charlotte Independence General Manager and Head Coach Mike Jeffries. "He offers us something different in the attack. He does a great job of running in behind opponent's backline, has some clever ideas in the final third, and works tirelessly. I think he will push for time this season and push to make a difference in each game we play."
Mbuyu played collegiately for the Liberty Flames from 2016-18, notching 33 goals and 17 assists in 40 appearances. In the summer of 2018, the forward joined USL League Two side North Carolina FC U23 where he scored four goals in nine appearances.
"It's going to be a great experience to be one of the first players to play at American Legion Memorial Stadium with the Independence," added Mbuyu. "I'm ready to give everything I got for the club."
Mbuyu joins Jake Areman, Brandt Bronico (on loan from Charlotte FC), Clay Dimick, Shalom Dutey, Junior Etou, Joel Johnson, Enzo Martinez, Brandon Miller, Austin Pack, Marcelo Palomino (on loan from Houston Dynamo FC), Hugh Roberts, Kevin Riascos, Valentin Sabella (currently loaned to Cancun FC), and Thomas de Villardi on the list of players confirmed for the 2021 season, as the club continues to negotiate with additional players.
