PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Arizona Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro announced today the team has re-signed forward Joey Sides for the upcoming 2010-11 Central Hockey League season.
Sides, 24, appeared in 59 games for Arizona during his rookie season in 2009-10 tallying 38 points and 100 PIM. His plus-6 rating led all active players on the Sundogs roster and his 18 goals tied for third-most on the team. The Sun Valley, Idaho, native finished fourth overall in scoring among CHL rookies.
"Joey skated in our training camp last year and earned a roster spot after the start of the season with tremendous effort and determination," said Pietroniro. "He shined as one of the league's top rookies last season and we're pleased to have him back."
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward closed out his first year pro collecting 12 points (7g/5a) in his final 10 games of the season.
Sides averaged nearly a point per game in four years of collegiate hockey at Wentworth (NCAA Division 3) in Boston, registering 32 goals, 53 assists and 221 PIM in 90 contests. The two-time ECAC Northeast All-Star selection served as team captain his senior season.
Sides joins goaltender Doug Groenestege as players under contract with Arizona for the 2010-11 season.
The Sundogs will celebrate their fifth season in the Central Hockey League beginning this October at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. Season ticket packages are available for as low as $295. For more information call (928) 583-6061 or visit www.arizonasundogs.com.
