FORT WAYNE, Ind.- Regular-season champion Fort Wayne scored four goals in the third period to hand the Bloomington a 5-1 loss before 8,688 people Saturday night at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in the PrairieThunder's final game of the International Hockey League season.
Bloomington finished the campaign with a 29-40-2-5 record (65 points) in Jarrod Skalde's first year as coach.
Defenseman Jason Lepine gave the PrairieThunder a 1-0 lead with 13:11 remaining in the first period on an unassisted goal. Fort Wayne tied the game with 7:18 left in the first period on Sean O'Connor's short-handed goal with an assist by Colin Chaulk.
The Komets broke the game open in the third period with goals by Jason Hodgeman, Konstantin Shafranov, Leo Thomas and David Huckalo.
Bloomington goaltender Jason Wolfe suffered the loss, stopping 37 of 42 shots. Fort Wayne owned a 42-25 advantage in shots and was 1 for 6 on the power play. Bloomington was unsuccessful on three power play attempts.
