Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Friday, January 23, 2015) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers today announced the signing of veteran goalkeeper Joe Nasco. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Joe Nasco has proven himself to be a top player in the league," General Manager Amaury Nunes said. "He brings a lot of experience and leadership to an important position on the field and we are extremely excited to have Joe and his family here in Fort Lauderdale."

Nasco, 30, joins the Strikers after a season in Major League Soccer (MLS) with Colorado Rapids. Prior to joining the MLS, the Florida-native helped lead the Atlanta Silverbacks to the 2013 NASL Spring Season title and a runner-up finish in the Soccer Bowl. He was named in the NASL Best XI in 2013.

"I would like to thank the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, coaches and front office staff for giving me the opportunity to play for such a historic club," Nasco said. "My family and I are very excited for this new journey and look forward to being part of a championship team in 2015. We are thrilled to move to Fort Lauderdale, meet the amazing fans and teammates, and get the season started!"

Nasco's journey to professional soccer was an unconventional one. After battling injuries at the college and amateur levels, Nasco left the game in 2008 and in 2010 became a police officer for the Gordon County Sheriff's Department in Calhoun, GA. He returned to the game in 2012, signing with the Silverbacks after impressing in an open tryout.

Before turning professional, Nasco played college soccer at both Andrew College and Birmingham-Southern College and with Panama City Pirates in the USL Premier Development League.
