Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

Oklahoma City Blazers forward Bryan Forslund scored two second period powerplay goals, including the game winnner, to help the Blazers get by the Fort Worth Brahmas 4-2 Saturday night at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

After 20 minutes of play, it looked like the Brahmas were on the right track for a road win. Fort Worth gave up the games first goal 43 seconds into the first period when Blazers winger Doug Shepperd hammered a shot from the right wing side past Brahmas goaltender Brent Belecki. Fort Worth would answer back, however, on the powerplay. Right wing Joey Bastien picked up a friendly carom off of the end boards behind the Blazers goal and flipped the puck past Blazers goaltender Boyd Ballard from just to the right of the goal crease. Bastien's goal tied the game at 1. It was Bastien again that gave Fort Worth their first lead of the game. At the 18:08 mark of the period, just as a Brahmas powerplay was expiring, Fort Worth d-man Peter Trumbley slid a nice pass to Bastien in the low slot. All alone, Bastien simply redirected the puck into the top corner of the Blazers net for his second goal of the game. Fort Worth carried a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

The second period was the Brahmas downfall. Oklahoma City capitalized on their first powerplay chance of the game when Forslund banged in a rebound from the left of the Brahmas net to tie the game at 2 at the 10:38 mark of the second. Just over three minutes later, it was Forslund again that gave the Blazers a 3-2 lead. On the powerplay, Forslund walked off the right wing boards and whistled a quick wrist shot past a screened Belecki at the 13:42 mark. Fort Worth could not muster any offense in the middle period, and the Blazers had a one goal lead after forty minutes of hockey.

In the final period, Oklahoma City was content to play dump and chase hockey and lay back defensively. The Blazers protective strategy worked, as Fort Worth had a hard time generating any type of offensive attack in their efforts for a tying goal. Fort Worth managed only 6 shots on goal in the period, failing to get anything by Ballard. Oklahoma City sealed the game when forward Ryan Watson scored into an empty net with just 14 seconds left in regualtion to set the final score at 4-2.

Belecki took the loss in net for Fort Worth, allowing three of the four Oklahoma City goals on the 32 shots he faced. Ballard stopped 24 of 26 Brahmas shots he faced for the win.

The loss drops the Brahmas record to 13-23-6 on the season. With the win, Oklahoma City improved to 22-18-5.

Fort Worth will continue their season high seven game road trip this coming Tuesday, February 3, when they travel to Bossier City, Louisiana to take on the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at 7:05 p.m. For more information, please contact the Brahmas office at (817) 336-4423.
