VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - Monday, June 27, 2011 - The Virginia Destroyers and Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer have added a dynamic player to the roster ahead of the 2011 United Football League season.

Versatile former West Virginia quarterback Pat White has signed a contract with the Destroyers today.

White spent time in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins and in Major League Baseball with the Kansas City Royals before signing with the Destroyers. He is excited to return to the game he loves. "I didn't know whether or not this would happen," said White. "It's a blessing and playing [for the Destroyers] is a great opportunity."

White became the first player in college football history to win four bowl games as a starting quarterback after defeating North Carolina 31-30 in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. He is third on the total offense yards list in a season in West Virginia school history with 2,878 yards. White also has the most rushing yards in a season by a West Virginia quarterback with 1,219 yards.

White was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the second round (44th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. He competed for the starting quarterback job with Chad Pennington and Chad Henne, while also being used in the Wildcat formation.

After being waived by the Dolphins in 2010, White signed a minor league baseball contract with the Kansas City Royals. Prior to the 2011 baseball season, White announced his retirement from baseball.

Destroyers' Director of Player Personnel Bret Munsey believes White will bring a different element to the team. "He [Pat] is competitive, a good athlete, and a leader on the field and in the locker room," said Munsey. "We [the Destroyers] look forward to see what he can bring to the team."
