Kurt Schottenheimer Announced As New Head Coach Of Virginia Destroyers
Virginia Beach, VA SEPT 18, 2012 - All eyes will be on the UFL Championship Defenders The Virginia Destroyers as Kurt Schottenheimer, younger brother of Marty Schottenheimer, takes over as the team's new Head Coach. "We are very happy to have Kurt take on the challenge of leading our football team through the 2012 campaign. I know Kurt will bring his own unique style to meet that challenge and continue to give the Hampton Road's fans a team they will be proud to support.", said John Wuehrmann President of the Virginia Destroyers.
Kurt Schottenheimer, a Western Pennsylvania native with an extensive coaching career in the NFL as well as college football, was a member of the Destroyers Championship coaching staff last year in the role of Defensive Coordinator. This will be his first opportunity as a Head Coach at the professional level.
On assuming his new role, the younger Schottenheimer says - "While I share in my brother's passion for the game and the satisfaction that comes from teaching the fundamentals necessary to help players perform at their best, I'm comfortable in my own shoes and my own approach in how best to get that done. I am very excited about the 2012 season ahead of us."
The Destroyers will kick off their season on the road against the Las Vegas Locomotives on Wednesday September 26th . The Destroyers home opener is military appreciation night. It will be at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex at 7pm Friday October 5th against the Sacramento Mountain Lions.
