Former Stampede Star Corey Tropp Gets the Call from Buffalo

Sioux Falls, SD-Former Stampede forward Corey Tropp has been recalled by the Buffalo Sabres. He is in Buffalo and is expected to play tomorrow (Friday) night when the Sabres host the Calgary Flames at 6:30 PM (Central). Should he hit the ice he will become the 13th former Stampede player to play in the National Hockey League and the second this week. Ryan Thang skated for the Nashville Predators Monday night.

The Grosse Pointe Woods, MI native got the call after posting seven points (4g, 3a) in 10 games with the Rochester Americans, the top affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres. Should he play tomorrow night he will join former Stampede star Thomas Vanek who is off to one of his best starts as a pro, posting 16 points (8g, 8a) in 11 games.

Tropp is a third-round draft pick of the Sabres during the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He posted 40 points (10g, 30a) and 113 penalty minutes in 76 games last season with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Tropp played in Sioux Falls from 2005 to 2007 and was a key member of the Herd's Clark Cup championship team in 2006-07. That season he led the Herd in scoring with 62 points (26g, 36a) in 54 games.

* 3 former Stampede players were on the ice Wednesday night. Andreas Nodl (2004-06)and Ben Holmstrom (2003-06)skated for the Philadelphia Flyers against Thomas Vanek (1999-2002) and the Buffalo Sabres. The Flyers won 3-2. Holmstrom

* Tropp and Vanek will become the third set of former Stampede players to skate together in the NHL. Chad LaRose (1999-2001)and Joe Jensen (2000-02)played in Carolina and Nodl and Holmstrom played together Wednesday.

* Former defenseman Nate Prosser (2003-06) was called up by the Minnesota Wild late last week and Prosser has played the last three games for Minnesota, including Thursday night's game against Vancouver.

* Kyle Rau (2010-11) is fourth in the nation in scoring with 13 points (7g, 6a) in just eight games with the University of Minnesota.

* Conor Allen (2009-10) and Massachusetts will face off against Vermont on January 3rd at Fenway Park in Boston. A week later, Clay Witt (2008-10) and Robbie Vrolyk (2006-09) of Northeastern University will square off against Boston College at Fenway. It is all part of the 2012 Sun Life Frozen Fenway.
