Former Saint Buchanan Goes Deep in First Two At Bats in Japan

ST. PAUL, MN (April 1, 2007) - With two swings of the bat Brian Buchanan said Sayonara as he clubbed a pair of homers in his first two at bats on Sunday at Chiba Marine Stadium in Japan.

The 33 year-old Buchanan came to the plate in the first inning with the bases loaded and promptly whacked one over the left field fence for a grand slam, part of a five run first inning for his Softbank Hawks.

In Buchanan's next at bat, in the fourth inning, he belted a two run homer and helped guide his team to an 8-2 victory over the Lotte Marines in Pacific League action.

"It's nice to see Buck off to a good start," said Saints Manager George Tsamis. "I hope he has a big season over there."

Buchanan is no stranger to Twin City fans playing 48 games for the Saints in 2006. He hit .292 with 11 homers and 48 RBI in helping guide the Saints to the Northern Division title. In 1998 Buchanan was traded to the Twins organization and reached the Major Leagues in 2000, playing parts of three seasons with the Twins.
