Former Razorback Joins Aeros
October 1, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Arkansas Aeros News Release
Springdale, AR. Consistency is a trait Larry Satchell developed at a young age. "I guess you could say I was consistent. I try to show up when I'm supposed to and be responsible whether that is on or off the basketball floor," Satchell said from his home in Fayetteville. "Playing in the SEC and learning top play at a high level is something that benefits me in general in life. Being consistent is part of playing at a high level in basketball."
Satchell attended Waco High School in Waco, Texas and joined the Razorbacks as a freshman in the fall of 1999. He was recruited out of Texas by Nolan Richardson and Mike Anderson. "The University of Arkansas was the place I felt most comfortable with," Satchell said. "I felt like the structure and the opportunity were too great to pass up and I committed as soon as there was an offer."
Throughout his four-year career in an Arkansas uniform, it was apparent that Satchell had a presence and impact on the defensive end of the court. He finished third in the SEC in total blocked shots during his sophomore campaign and was second overall in league play. During his junior year, Satchell led the SEC during the conference season in assist-to-turnover ratio. During the 1999-2000 campaign, the Razorbacks won the SEC post-season championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Upon graduation, Satchell finished up his course work at Arkansas, married his wife Camille and they now have a daughter, Laurie.
In 2005, he played professionally in Argentina and has now returned to Fayetteville. Aeros head coach Bob Hoffman says that having guys who have competed in the SEC and the Big 12 on the floor night in and night out will help his team compete and improved in the fast-paced ABA. "Larry will be valuable for us because he is a hard worker. He's one of those guys that will give you a lot of effort and impact a game defensively. You need solid defenders who can block shots to start fast break basketball and offensive excitement on the other end of the floor."
