Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release

BOARDMAN, OH. - The Mahoning Valley Thunder is pleased to announce that the arenafootball2 League Office has assigned two players to the 2008 Thunder roster. Wide Receiver/Defensive Back Tariq Goode (6'1, 210) and Wide Receiver Henry Tolbert (5'11, 205) are the latest roster additions. Both Goode and Tolbert are af2 rookies.

Goode is a native of Cleveland Heights, OH. He joins the Thunder after a college career that began at the University of Toledo and commenced at Youngstown State University.

Goode saw his first game action with Youngstown State in 2006. Playing in 14 games for the Penguins, Goode was credited with five special teams tackles, including a season best three solo's in the season opener against Slippery Rock. Tariq played 18 snaps at receiver, where he was used primarily as a blocker. Goode spent time in training camp with the AFL's Cleveland Gladiators earlier this year.

Joining Goode on the Mahoning Valley roster is Henry Tolbert a Birmingham, AL. native. A former Grambling State University standout, Tolbert twice earned All-SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) second team honors and prior to the 2006 season was named both a Sporting News and Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-American. As a junior, Tolbert set a school record with 19 receiving touchdowns.

Throughout his four year career, Tolbert posted totals of: 182 receptions for 3,075 yards, with 32 touchdowns. The former Tiger began his career as a tailback and rushed for over 300 yards with two scores. Following his playing days at Grambling State, Tolbert spent time in training camp with both the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals and the AFL's Orlando Predators.

THUNDER HEAD COACH MIKE HOLD SAYS:

"Both Tariq and Henry have excellent hands. Tariq has above average size to play either receiver or move over and work as a defensive back. Henry's a shift guy who's not afraid to go over the middle. As a receiver he seems to initiate contact rather then absorb it, that's the kind of stuff that rubs off on teammates. We're excited to bring both of these guys in, we expect them to make an impact."

The Mahoning Valley Thunder opens the season at home Saturday March 29th on Cortland Banks Field inside the Chevrolet Centre. Be a part of all the action in 2008 as the Thunder continues their climb towards the ArenaCup9 Championship. Season and individual tickets are on sale now starting at just $12. Group Outings and Birthday Parties for individual games also available. For more information call the Thunder Offices at 330.758.4af2 (4232).
