Former Paints' star called up by Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies announced Thursday that they are calling up infielder, Mike Cervenak from their Triple-A farm club, Lehigh Valley. Cervenak, a former University of Michigan standout, began his professional career with the Chillicothe Paints in 1999. Following the Frontier League All-Star break in 2000, the New York Yankees purchased his contract from the Paints. In 40 games that year for Chillicothe, he hit .357 with 12 home runs and 43 RBI.
Cervenak, age 31, was traded to the San Francisco Giants in 2003 and later traded to the Baltimore Orioles in 2007 before joining the Phillies' organization this year. He has played at the Triple-A level for the past five seasons.
During his 10-year Minor League career, Cervenak boasts a .295 career average with 138 home runs and 683 RBI.
