Former NBA stars jump aboard Express
June 2, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Jersey Express News Release
Newark, NJ. On Saturday, June 10th between 10am & 2pm, the ABA Newark Express will host its open tryout for the 2006-2007 season. Lowes Moore, former NBA star and NJ Nets 3rd pick in the 1980 draft will facilitate the tryout for those hopefuls trying to make it to training camp this fall. Mr. Moore, who is currently the Executive Director of the City of Mount Vernon's Boys & Girls Club, brings a winning tradition and mentality to the Newark Express.
Lowes attended the legendary Mount Vernon High school which produced the likes of former NBA greats Gus and Ray Williams, Scooter and Rodney McCray, Earl Tatum and most recently, the NBA 6th man of the year, Chicago Bull Ben Gordon. Lowes had an outstanding college career at West Virginia before entering the draft in 1980 and played several years in the NBA before finishing his career with the San Diego Clippers in 1984.
Ron Moore played for the Detroit Pistons in 1987. Moore attended West Virginia State and Winston Salem State University before being drafted by the New York Knicks in the 1987 draft. He was then traded to the Detroit Pistons and finished his NBA career with the Phoenix Suns.
Co-owners Marsha Blount & Jacqui Halyard are extremely excited about the facilitators of this tryout noting that they understand what we're looking for. We will build a championship team.
On a personal note, Ms. Blount is excited about having a long time friend take on the role of helping her find the best talent around in Lowes. Lowes also happens to be marrioed to one of her best friends and former Mount Vernon High School teammate Patrice Wallace-Moore. Ms. Blount's jersey was recently retired by the school in recognition of her outstanding play there. Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
