Former MLB Catcher Mike Rose Signs With Outlaws

(Chico, CA. April 2, 2010) The Chico Outlaws, members of the independent professional Golden Baseball League, announced today that they have signed C Mike Rose for the 2010 season. Rose, who has played in the major leagues with the Oakland Athletics, Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals organizations, comes to the Outlaws after spending 2009 in Albuquerque (Triple-A Pacific Coast League) in the Los Angeles Dodgers minor league system.

Rose, who is originally from Sacramento, CA and attended high school in Antioch, CA was drafted in the 5th round by the Houston Astros in 1995. He climbed steadily through the minor league system reaching AA in 1999, AAA in 2001 and had his major league debut with the Oakland A's in 2004. He went on to play in the big leagues with the Dodgers and Cardinals over the next several years. A career .260 hitting with very good power, he is also known for his patience at the plate and his fine defensive skills.

"I'm really excited to have Mike Rose as a member of the team this year," said Chico Outlaws Manager Garry Templeton. "He's a first class catcher and hitter and it will be great to have his veteran leadership. It will be a treat for our fans as well." Rose's signing continues an impressive rebuilding of the Outlaws that has seen highly accomplished slugging stars OF Maikel Jova (AAA) and 1B Chris Kelly (AA) added in the off-season as well.

The Outlaws open up their 6th season on the road on May 21st against the Cimarrrones de Tijuana. The home opener will be held on Thursday, May 27th against the Cimmarrones de Tijuana at 7:05pm at Nettleton Stadium.
