Cedar Rapids River Raiders News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (October 28, 2003) â The new River Raiders' choreographer knows what it takes to put NBA style performances on the basketball floor for fans.
Melynda Wolter danced professionally for two years with the "Luvabulls", the official dance team of the Chicago Bulls of the NBA.
"I'm excited to be a part of the River Raiders organization," said Wolter. "This ground floor opportunity will be exciting and challenging for me and the Raiderettes. Our main focus is to be a classy and professional dance team, adding enthusiasm, entertainment and a lot of fun to the games for fans to enjoy."
Wolter and the River Raiders will conduct auditions for the River Raiders Raiderettes' cheer and dance squad on Saturday, November 8 at Westdale Mall in Cedar Rapids, IA. The auditions will be on the main floor, right off center court of the mall across from Lens Crafters and start at noon.
"I would like to congratulate Melynda on her appointment as choreographer for the Raiderettes' Cheer and Dance squad", said the Director of the "Luvabulls" Cathy Core. "Using her working knowledge from the "Luvabulls" and the Chicago Bulls will give her the experience to make the Raiderettes' an excellent squad for fans to enjoy in the Cedar Rapids area".
Wolter is a Marion High School and Iowa State alum. At Marion and Iowa State, she was a member of the Pom squad. While with the "Luvabulls" Melynda's performances included home basketball games, special events, and international tournaments in London and Amsterdam. She also has been a judge for the Iowa Cheer and Dance Competition which is held annually in Cedar Rapids at Westdale Mall in addition to judging other local dance teams and cheerleaders for try-outs. She has taught dancing to local groups as well as international groups while with the Luvabulls.
"We are very excited to have Melynda join the River Raiders organization," River Raiders President and CEO Barry S. Smith. "We are very fortunate to have someone with Melynda's experience and talent to lead the Raiderettes' in the inaugural season."
The Raiderettes' cheer and dance squad will not only perform at all River Raider home games, but they will also act as ambassadors for the River Raiders' organization, in the arena and around the community.
The River Raiders will start its inaugural 30 game regular season (15 home games) in April of 2004 at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids. The River Raiders are an expansion franchise of the 19 year old USBL. Season tickets are on sale now! For more information call 319-373-2683 or visit our website at www.crriverraiders.com.
