Indiana Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - A pair of former Indiana Ice players look to be the first alumni to hoist the Stanley Cup as defenseman Torey Krug (Boston Bruins) and Paul Carey (Colorado Avalanche) battle in the 2014 NHL Playoffs beginning tonight at 9:30 pm.
The Central Division Champion Avalanche (#2 seed-Western Conference) will faceoff against the Minnesota Wild (#7-Western Conference) tonight at 9:30 pm in the best-of-seven series. Presidents Trophy-winning Boston (#1 seed-Eastern Conference) begins their series against the 11-time Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings Friday (4/18) at 7:30 pm.
This marks Carey's first shot at professional hockey's top team prize after being called up from Colorado's top affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters, in March. Since being called up early last month, the Weymouth, MA-native has seen action in 12 games while logging over 78 minutes of on-ice time.
Before making his professional hockey debut, Carey was a two-time NCAA Frozen Four Champion at Boston College. He spent the 2007-08 season with the Ice, leading the team in goals (34) and finishing third in points (66). Carey also holds the franchise record for power play goals in a single season (16).
Krug gets his second attempt at the Stanley Cup after his 2013 whirlwind playoff tour with Boston that saw the team fall to the Chicago Blackhawks in game six of the finals. The rookie defenseman continued his sensational play through his first full season in the NHL, leading all first-year blueliners in points (40), goals (14) and assists (26) while tying for first among team defensemen in points.
The Livonia, MI-native signed with Boston after a three-year career with Michigan State University, serving as team captain in his sophomore and junior seasons. As a member of the 2008-09 Clark Cup Champion Ice squad, Krug led all team defensemen in points (47), goals (10) and assists (37).
Carey and Krug's junior alma mater continue the push for their second Clark Cup Championship tonight and Friday (4/18) in two road games against the Green Bay Gamblers from the Resch Center. Both contests are set to begin at 8:05 pm Eastern time.
If necessary, game five of the Eastern Conference semifinals would return to Pan Am Pavilion on Monday, April 21 at 7:05 pm. Eastern Conference finals action would begin the following Friday (4/25) with the matchup yet to be determined.
Tickets for the Clark Cup playoffs, presented by Ivy Tech, remain the same at $15 for reserved seating and $10 for standing room only and can be purchased on Ticketmaster or through the Indiana Ice office at (317) 925-4423.
