Indiana Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ice announced today that alum Paul Carey has been called up to the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and could make his debut as early as tonight when they host the Chicago Blackhawks at the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO.
Carey has spent the past two seasons with the Avalanche's top affiliate, the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters. In 126 games with the Cleveland, OH franchise, he has logged 62 points (27G, 35A) and 71 penalty minutes while finishing third on the team in goals (19) in his first full professional season (2012-13).
Drafted in the fifth round (135th overall) of the 2007 NHL Draft by Colorado, Carey was a four-year player at Boston College, earning two national championships (2010, 2012) and tallying 86 points (45G, 41A) in 147 games. He also was named to the 2012 Frozen Four All-Tournament Team after scoring three goals in the tourney, including the National Championship game winner against Ferris State.
Immediately following his collegiate career, the former USHL all-star signed an entry-level contract with the Avalanche in April 2012.
Carey was a member of the last squad to finish first in the USHL's Eastern Conference (2007-08), leading the team in goals (34) while finishing third in assists (32) and points (66). The Weymouth, MA-native still holds the franchise records for longest consecutive point streak (13 games) and most power play goals in a single season (16).
Indy continues through the heart of a six-game road stretch this Friday and Saturday with a pair on contests against the Green Bay Gamblers. The puck is set to drop at 8:05 pm Eastern.
The Ice return home Saturday, March 22 against the Youngstown Phantoms from Pan Am Pavilion before hosting the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Sunday, March 23 for "Family Night" from Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Saturday's game is set for 7:05 pm while Sunday's matinee contest will begin at 3:05 pm.
Individual and group tickets are on sale for all remaining 2013-2014 Indiana Ice home games. Flex packages and additional ticket packages are available starting as low as $50. For more information, call the Indiana Ice at (317) 925-4423.
