Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release

Jose Davis led the Ohio Valley Greyhounds to the 2002 Indoor Bowl title. Sunday, after nearly four years as a backup in Arena Football, the starter 's mantle is his and his alone.

The former Kent State and indoor star will lead the Grand Rapids Rampage against the Columbus Destroyers in the season opener for both.

Davis earned the starting job, after the Rampage cut projected starter Raymond Philyaw after complications from rotator cuff surgery.

Rampage head coach Sparky McEwen said the 6-1, 195 pounder had a tremendous training camp, including no turnovers and an ability "in and outside the pocket."

"Both (Jose Davis and Chad Salisbury) had fantastic training camps, but it came down to who put the ball into the end zone more throughout training camp and our scrimmages against Kansas City and San Jose. And that was Davis," McEwen added.

This will mark the fourth career start for the Bellaire, Ohio native in his four-year AFL career

Davis spent last season with Arena Bowl Champion Colorado, as a backup to John Dutton. He also played one game for Ohio Valley in United Indoor Football.

In 2003 and 2004, Davis held a similar role with the Indiana Firebirds.
