
Former Erie Explosion Lineman Andre Mathis Signs with Philadelphia Soul

Erie, PA- Former Erie Explosion Lineman Andre Mathis has signed a contract with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League.
Mathis (6'2, 280) was a key contributor on the 2011 Northern Division Championship team helping the Explosion to a 9-3 regular season record. Mathis a local Erie, PA product contributed 14.5 tackles, 6 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries for a touchdown for the Explosion in 2011. Mathis also saw time at fullback and mack linebacker for the Explosion.
Following his successful 2011 season in Erie, Mathis had the opportunity to advance his career with the New Orleans Voodoo of the Arena Football League in 2012.
"Playing for my hometown team was a very humbling experience and helped me prepare to play in the Arena Football League. The Erie Explosion organization and the Liotta brothers have helped pave the way for many young players to receive opportunities at the next level. I am thankful to be a member of the Philadelphia Soul and to be back playing in the State of Pennsylvania in 2013," commented Andre Mathis.
Mathis a product of Cathedral Prep in Erie, played collegiately at the University of Tennessee where he earned three varsity letters.
"Andre is a very versatile player who was a key contributor to our 2011 team. He is extremely valuable to an AFL franchise because of his playmaking ability and the versatility to play both Mack Linebacker and Defensive End. I expect him to be very successful for the Soul in 2013," commented Erie Head Coach Shawn Liotta.
The signing of Andre Mathis and Mike Robinson to the Philadelphia Soul now means that two former Erie Explosion defensive linemen are now on the Soul 2013 roster. The Erie Explosion have had 12 former players sign an AFL or CFL contract over the past two seasons.
