Former Erie Defensive Back Lenny Wicks Re-Signs with AFL Team

Former Erie Explosion defensive back Lenny Wicks has re-signed with the Cleveland Gladiators for the 2013 season.

Wicks joined the Gladiators for the 2012 season after helping the Erie Explosion to a Northeast Division Championship in 2011. Wicks (5'10, 200) a product of Youngstown State University, had 7 interceptions during the 2011 season with Erie, and set a team record with 4 interception returns for touchdowns in one game.

Lenny was a key component of an Erie Explosion defense which finished with a +20 turnover margin during the 2011 season. In 2012 while playing for the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League, Wicks had 25 total tackles, 3 interceptions, 2 pass break-ups, and 1 forced fumble in only 7 games.

Wicks reflected on his time spent in Erie and how it helped him to transition to the Arena game, "Playing for the Erie Explosion was a great experience and it gave me a chance to continue my football career. It was a great opportunity to learn the indoor game and to keep my film current. Playing in Erie helped me develop my skills as an Arena Football player and I am looking forward to returning to the Cleveland Gladiators for the 2013 season."

Wicks joined Erie in 2011 after spending time with the Pittsburgh Power of the Arena Football League and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football Legue in 2010. Wicks finished his Youngstown State career with 152 total tackles and 5 interceptions, and in 2009 was named to the All-Missouri Valley Confernece team.

Wicks is the second Erie Explosion player this week to sign an Arena Football League Contract during the AFL exclusive signing period.
