Former Big Leaguer and baseball great Bob Kennedy, Sr. passed away Thursday

The Golden Baseball League mourns the passing of Bob Kennedy, Sr., father to San Diego Surf Dawgs Team Manager Terry Kennedy. Kennedy died Thursday in Arizona, at the age of 84. Bob Kennedy, Sr. had an 18-year career, seeing major league action with the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland, Baltimore, Detroit and Brooklyn. After his playing career, Kennedy continued to work in baseball as a coach and in the front office for several Major League organizations including General Manager of the Chicago Cubs.
"We are greatly saddened by the loss of Terry Kennedy's father, Bob Kennedy, Sr.," said Juliana Paoli, General Manager of the San Diego Surf Dawgs. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family during this difficult time. Bob Kennedy, Sr. will be deeply missed, this loss will be felt throughout the entire baseball community."
The Funeral services will take place on Monday, April 11, 2005 in Mesa, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (332 N. The Golden Baseball League, Presented by Safeway Inc./VONS, is a professional baseball league operating under a single-entity ownership model, with the League owning all the individual teams. Charter Golden Baseball League teams include the Chico Outlaws in Chico; CA, the Fullerton Flyers in Fullerton; CA, the Long Beach Armada in Long Beach; CA, the San Diego Surf Dawgs in San Diego; CA, the Mesa Miners in Mesa; AZ, the Surprise Fightin' Falcons in Surprise; AZ, the Yuma Scorpions in Yuma; AZ and the Japan Samurai Bears which will be the traveling team. The season will consist of 90 games per team and will begin late May and end in early September. Each team will have a 24-player roster.
