MOBILE, Ala. - The Los Angeles Angels announced Monday that they plan to recall right-handed pitcher Jaime Barria, a former member of the Mobile BayBears. Barria is scheduled to make his Major League debut in a start Wednesday night against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

Barria, 21, made 12 starts with Mobile last year, going 1-6 with a 3.21 ERA (22 earned runs in 61 2/3 innings pitched), 15 walks, and 47 strikeouts. In his first four starts with the BayBears in June, spanning 23 2/3 innings, he allowed just two earned runs on 15 hits with three walks and 19 strikeouts. Barria represented the Angels organization in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at Marlins Park, where he pitched a scoreless sixth inning with two strikeouts for the World squad.

After making three starts with Triple-A Salt Lake to finish the 2017 season, Barria was named a MiLB.com Angels Organization All-Star and was added to the Angels 40-man roster in November. He made five Major League Spring Training appearances this year, including one as a starter, before being optioned back to Salt Lake. Barria pitched two innings Saturday night in just his fourth Triple-A game overall before being promoted to the Majors.

In his Minor League career, spanning parts of six seasons, Barria has a 24-24 record with a 3.47 ERA in 87 games, 74 starts. He spent the entire 2016 campaign in the starting rotation for Class A Burlington, where he was a Midwest League Mid-Season All-Star and led the team with eight wins. In 11 starts with Class A Advanced Inland Empire to begin the 2017 season, he went 4-3 with a 2.48 ERA in 11 starts and was a California League Mid-Season All-Star.

The Panama City, Panama native is currently the No. 7 prospect in the Angels organization, according to MLB Pipeline. Barria was signed by the Angels as an international free agent on April 11, 2013.

Barria is set to become the third member of the 2017 BayBears to appear in a Major League game, joining right-handed pitchers Parker Bridwell and Eduardo Paredes.

The BayBears begin a five-game road series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. CT. Live coverage can be seen on MiLB.tv (Jacksonville feed, subscription required, promo code: BAYBEARS) and heard on the BayBears Broadcast Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App, with the Countdown to First Pitch starting at 5:45 p.m. CT.

The BayBears return home Monday, April 16, and host a total of 70 home dates through Labor Day, September 3. Single-game tickets and ticket packages are currently on sale. Season tickets and group and hospitality offerings for the 2018 season can be reserved by calling (251) 479-BEAR (2327).
