Errors Doom Barons In 5-2 Loss

Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Barons (3-2) fell behind early and couldn't muster a late comeback as they fell 5-2 to the Chattanooga Lookouts (2-3) in the finale of their five-game series on Monday night at AT&T Field. Despite the loss, the Barons earned an opening series win for the first time since 2011.

Moments That Mattered: Birmingham committed a season-high four errors, their third-straight multi-error game. In the first, a Courtney Hawkins throwing error led to two runs scoring. Two more Barons errors in the third resulted in a pair of runs, giving the Lookouts a 5-1 lead they would not give up.

Turning Point: Jorge Rondón entered in relief of Matt Tomshaw (L, 0-1) in the fourth with the bases loaded and one out. The reliever promptly struck out Zander Weil and induced a fly out from Brian Navarreto to end the inning with the runners left on base and keep the Barons within striking distance.

By The Numbers: Jameson Fisher continued his torrid start to the season with a leadoff double in the top of the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to four games. He also walked and added a sacrifice fly to score Birmingham's final run.

Facts And Figures: Making his Barons debut, Tomshaw couldn't catch a break. In 3.1 innings, he gave up five runs, three earned, on nine hits with no walks and two strikeouts. In relief, four pitchers combined to pitch 4.2 scoreless innings.

Up Next: The Barons return to Regions Field for their home opener on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. as they open a five-game set against the Montgomery Biscuits. Spencer Adams (0-0, 7.20) gets the start for Birmingham against Montgomery's Genesis Cabrera (0-0, 3.60). Curt Bloom will have the call on 960 WERC News Radio and the iHeart Radio app.
